Flexbrick® will wrap the Opportunity Pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI
Although the global mega event will now run from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, in order to allow all participants to safely navigate the impact of COVID-19, the Expo Dubai preparations are on its way and the Flexbrick® family is proud to take part of it covering the full façade of The Opportunity Pavilion.
The Opportunity Pavilion has an area of 8784 square meters, and it will be an architectural marvel designed by AGi Architects, made up of 5 buildings. On its façades, 4,243.43m2 of Flexbrick® ceramic fabric will be placed, being perfectly unified with each other under a cantilevered ceramic pergola.
For this project, the ceramic fabric will have a different weft than the usual one, specifically a checkerboard at 50%. It will be opaque in the starting zone up to a certain fixed point, in which it will begin to disperse with a certain undulation, rising to a percentage close to 90%. All this involves the placement of some 170,000 inserted pieces, most of them -a 100,000- in the main hall.
The pavilion has to meet the sustainable demands of the EXPO organization, which wants to be able to dismantle the buildings without waste a few years after the amortization of the use of the facilities. For which the Flexbrick® system is ideal since it allows the recovery of all materials thanks to the mechanical fixing.
We want to highlight other sustainable benefits such as: the suitability of ceramics for extreme weather, and especially the Flexbrick® solution for its good performance as a ventilated façade with open joints and as a solar control system. That the ceramic pieces are fired with Biogas, a fuel generated by the degradation of organic substances, allows us to reduce dramatically CO2 emissions.
