The “Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau” Research Center -designed by PICHarchitects_Pich-Aguilera and 2BMFG Arquitectes- has won the Tile of Spain Awards 2019 first prize (Architecture category) by ASCER.
The jury chaired by the Dutch architect Jacob van Rijs (studio MVRDV) declares that the building stands out due to the innovative use of ceramics and its mimicry with the surroundings. The facade is a permeable skin of Flexbrick® ceramic fabric that establishes a gentle dialogue between the interior and the exterior at a visual level, but also gives to the building a chameleonic identity that connects with the modernist style of the Hospital.
Winning the Tile of Spain Awards is one of the most prestigious honors in the Spanish Architecture. Their main purpose is to highlight those architecture and interior design projects that make a better use of ceramics. The Awards ceremony will take place on February 4, 2020.
